Men

Description

"Men" is a song originally composed and performed by Regina Spektor. One of Regina's earliest songs, its first and only known performance was on 2001-03-10 in Gelterkinden, Switzerland. The song was never officially recorded or released.

"Men" was previously unknown until Renate Hug uploaded clips to YouTube in 2012 that feature Regina's first known solo performance in 2001. In a 2016 Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything), Regina confirmed that the name of the song is "Men" and that it was a track left off of the release of 11:11. Despite this information as well as fitting stylistically and thematically with previously unreleased songs, "Men" was omitted from the 2022 release of Papa's Bootlegs.

Lyrics

They don’t know why
they just do

Men making love with their shoelaces,
men making love while their wives go to sleep

Some people know to walk on water
and others have to learn how to swim
and others have to learn how to drown,
’cause eternal life is a drag

Some people know to walk on water
and others have to learn how to swim
and others have to learn how to drown

‘Cause eternal life is a drag
‘Cause eternal life is a drag
‘Cause eternal life is a drag

It goes so slowly,
slowly…
