Boardwalk Empire Demos
Description:
The Boardwalk Empire Demos refers to a theorized demo session likely occuring in 2011 which resulted in the recording of songs to support the HBO Original Series Boardwalk Empire.
On 2011-08-11, < a href="https://www.spektorsthesaurus.com/release/boardwalkempirevol1">Boardwalk Empire Volume 1 Music From the HBO Original Series was announced, which included the song "My Man", a song popularized by Fanny Brice and recorded by Regina Spektor. The soundtrack was released on 2011-09-13, and "My Man" would go on to be played in S02E03 of Boardwalk Empire, entitled "A Dangerous Maid", on 2011-10-09.
A second cover song by Regina Spektor – this time a cover of the Ruth Etting song "Love Me or Leave Me" – would feature on several episdoes of Boardwalk Empire, including S04E01, S05E01, and the series penultimate episode S05E07, entitled "Friendless Child". This song would go on to feature on Boardwalk Empire Volume 3 Music From the HBO Original Series, released on 2014-10-27.
A third song, another Fanny Brice cover entitled "Second Hand Rose" was also recorded, in a similar style to both "My Man" and "Love Me or Leave Me" and also featuring Vince Giordano and The Nighthawks. Other than its association with Regina's other Boardwalk Empire work, little is known about this recording, other than it never received a proper release. It is possible that a single recording session produced all three songs, with "My Man" and "Love Me or Leave Me" being selected and "Second Hand Rose" not making the cut. It is also possible that some or all of the songs were recorded at different times.
